A futon is a place to sleep
The trick to getting a good night's sleep without relying on medication is to "go to bed only when you feel sleepy."
You may be thinking, "What's that?"
Lying down in bed when you're not sleepy will only make your insomnia worse.
This is because the experience of not being able to sleep even after going to bed remains in your mind,
and your body remembers that.
The reason it's not good to look at your smartphone before going to sleep is because
your body should recognize the bed in your bedroom as a "place to sleep,"
but your body recognizes the bed as a "place to look at your smartphone."
Also,
it's important to make your bedroom a "space where you can concentrate on sleeping."
So,
review your bedroom's temperature, lighting, and comfort of the futon,
and see if they're appropriate!
And,
if you can't fall asleep after going to bed,
get out of bed or the bedroom,
and relax in another room until you feel sleepy.
Avoid staying in bed while unable to sleep.
It's okay if you can't sleep for a day or two.
